PINE VALLEY, Washington County, UTAH — The intense moments of a large cougar being released from a bobcat trap were caught on video, and the Division of Wildlife Resources employee talked about the unique experience.

It is illegal to trap cougars in Wyoming, but these big cats are caught indiscriminately by snares and legholds. 12 cougars were reported caught and killed in snares since 2009. But unless the lion is injured in such a way that the injury may result in death, or it has been killed, the trapper is not required to report. We don’t know how many mountain lions have been trapped and released in Wyoming.
